Covers

Over the past couple of years, I've created a TON of original material on the guitar (primarily for the Gyoza project). To tell the truth, I've barely focused on doing any sort of covers. But recently I've made a better attempt at finding tabs of my favorite songs, then actually learning how to play each song (rather than giving up in a dissapointed manner). What songs did I choose? From what bands? See below, and you may see that I've picked some of your favorite songs/artists:

Botch- Transitions From Persona To Object

Self- Borateen

Dismemberment Plan- What Did You Want Me To Say

Burning Airlines- Scissoring

Failure- Wonderful Life

Hum- Double Dip

Cave In- In The Stream of Commerce

New guitar tricks & more

video

Learned how to fingertap this week, came up with my own little piece as well (sorry that the audio quality isn't incredible in the video). I got inspired by some Riddle of Steel, so now I'm look forward to using this style in future music recordings.

Gyoza 2011 (Make Believe) Tour

It would be epic as Cthulu, or an invasion of giant isopods, or total [insert cult-status evil creature here] chaos.

But I'll probably have to wait another year or two (or four...) for that to happen.

The Coolest EPs (and etc.) of 2010

-Metroid Metal- Expansion Pack
1 year after the debut album "Varia Suite", the live version of MM is at it again, laying down more astonishing remakes of metal remakes of the Metroid VGM. This EP includes songs from the original game, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, and Prime 3.

Check out: Norfair

-Torche- Songs For Singles
It's 8 tracks at around 22 minutes, with tons of bite-sized heavy hitters that will make you crave for more! Not as sludgy as previous material, but still the balls-out massive rock that Torche is known for, just moreso up-tempo.

Check out: Face the Wall

-Small Brown Bike- Composite Vol. 2
The second volume of their 7" Composite series is SBB relaxing a bit from their more punk/hardcore side, feeling inclined to make some slow-yet-dynamic tunes. Perfect for winter weather.

Check out: Both songs, it's a 7" after all

-City of Ships- Three Mile Bridge/South Laurel
Not as hi-fi as their debut album "Look What God Did To Us", but that doesn't mean City of Ships is losing momentum: not at all. Modulated guitars, growling bass, eerie and smooth vocals into irate screams, and intense drumming can be found once again.

Check out: Their cover of M83's "Don't Save Us From the Flames", though it's only found on the digital version of the 7"

-Alpha Stasis- Escape The Machine Planet
A new artist has emerged in the galaxy that is space rock, mixing together an obsession of sci-fi and robots with a post-hardcore/metal mentality. Also features soothing indie rock guitars and vocals that will satisfy fans of Hum, Hopesfall, and Zozobra.

Check out: They Don't Know

(Damn) This Desert Air- Distance Waits
The New Jersey 5-piece put out their 2nd EP in 2010, but instead of just recording it themselves again, they went to the studio with Brian Virtue (who's also worked with Deftones, Jane's Addiction, Born Empty, Look What I Did). They certainly are getting better and better, with their ethereal brand of post hardcore that will definitely fill up the room.

Check out: Trembles

My Music Video Resume

Here's some music videos I've created/starred in:

'Steam' - Hammer No More the Fingers from inhaler records on Vimeo.

This whole thing started when I recorded myself dancing to 3 songs from HNMTF's self-titled album and uploaded it on Youtube. Some of the guys who run the band's label from the U.K., Inhaler Records, took notice and I got a request to do a video for a new song from HNMTF's upcoming album "Black Shark". I was suprised, but was totally up for it as well! Started recording some scenes in late June, even made a makeshift tripod with a music stand so I could record myself dancing at the creek behind my house. I went over to Flemingsburg to shoot some more scenes with the help of some friends of mine, which makes up the majority of the video. Overall it was really a pleasure to do music video for one of my favorite bands! (There was actually additional footage I recorded with more friends in late August, which took place out in the woods of Hillsboro, but wasn't used.)

Just made this video recently, and I owe such an idea all to Dell Webcam Central, which can let you do a bunch of awesome shit like slow motion, werewolf transformation, that "seeing double" video effect, etc. I used my creativity with the program to make a music video for a Gyoza song, and ended up recording a bunch of footage in the time span of about 2 hours. I went on to edit the footage, and the very next day I was able to complete it. It served as a great time killer too, as I was imprisoned in my home thanks to another snow storm.

Music videos sure are loads of fun to create, especially when you don't have to pay a dime to make them! (Though in the future I may plan on doing something with a slightly bigger budget then $0, haha)
